Uke Mochi (保食神
Giapponese; Italiano: "Dea che possiede cibo") è
una dea del cibo nella religione shintoista del Giappone.
Quando Uke Mochi invitò Tsukuyomi (dio
della luna) ad un banchetto in rappresentanza della sorella
Amaterasu (dea del sole), la dea del cibo preparò la festa.
Voltandosi verso l'oceano sputò un pesce, voltandosi verso la
foresta fece uscire dal suo ano la selvaggina, infine, rivolgendo lo
sguardo ad una risaia tossì una ciotola di riso; Tsukuyomi, fu
totalmente disgustato dal cibo, nonostante le pietanze fossero
squisite, quindi uccise Uke-Mochi. Anche il suo corpo dopo che fu
uccisa produsse cibo: miglio, riso, fagioli saltarono dal suo corpo.
Le sue sopracciglia divennero anche bachi da seta.
La dea è talvolta chiamata anche
Ōgetsuhime-no-kami (大宜都比売神).
Uke Mochi è anche la moglie di Inari
(dio del riso) in alcune leggende e in altri si è Inari.
